SAFeCRAFT 3rd General Assembly Meeting in Chania, Greece

The SAFeCRAFT consortium held its 3rd General Assembly Meeting on 2–3 October 2025 at the Porto Platanias Village Resort in Chania, Greece. The meeting gathered all partners to review the project’s progress, share technical results, and agree on the next steps for the safe and efficient use of sustainable fuels in maritime transport.

Partners presented updates across all work packages, including project management, conceptual design of alternative fuel systems (ammonia, hydrogen, and LOHC), holistic assessments, and engineering design for the demonstrator. The consortium also advanced discussions on life cycle analysis and cost analysis of alternative systems, providing valuable insights into environmental and economic performance.

Safety evaluation remained a central theme, with presentations and discussions on preliminary and qualitative safety assessments, probabilistic and deterministic risk analysis, and a dedicated workshop on Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) key findings. The meeting also explored digitalisation approaches, focusing on advanced analytical tools to support decision-making for fuel selection and operations, as well as simulation techniques to assess system performance and environmental impacts under realistic conditions.

The General Assembly highlighted the project’s strong collaboration and progress, combining technical development, safety methodologies, regulatory considerations, and outreach activities. Alongside the formal agenda, participants also had opportunities to strengthen their cooperation through networking and joint discussions.

The 3rd General Assembly reaffirmed the consortium’s commitment to advancing innovative, safe, and sustainable solutions for the maritime sector and set the direction for the next phase of the project.
