PTI/PTO Retrofit Completed on M/V Worldship: SAFeCRAFT Reaches a Key Milestone

SAFeCRAFT has achieved an important milestone with the completion of the PTI/PTO plant retrofit on board M/V Worldship, taking a significant step towards the project’s full-scale demonstration.

The completed retrofit turns engineering plans into a tangible installation on the project’s demonstrator vessel. It lays the foundation for exploring how alternative energy sources can work alongside conventional ship systems—a central challenge in bringing lower-emission solutions to the existing fleet.

For SAFeCRAFT, this achievement moves the project closer to demonstrating its approach under real operating conditions. The next stages will help build practical experience and assess how these technologies could be applied more widely in shipping.

Reflecting on this progress, project partner Seanergy Maritime Corp. (SHIP) shared:

“We are pleased to see our M/V Worldship contributing to the practical development of solutions that can support the future use of alternative fuels in existing vessels. The PTI concept gives us the opportunity to explore how low- and zero-carbon energy sources can be integrated with conventional ship systems under real operating conditions. Through SAFeCRAFT, we are building valuable hands-on experience, and a clearer understanding of how these technologies may be applied across the fleet. Our vision is to remain actively engaged in the energy transition by adopting solutions that are technically sound, operationally practical and capable of delivering meaningful emissions reductions.”

Completing the PTI/PTO retrofit marks an important step in that direction, providing a platform for the work ahead and bringing SAFeCRAFT’s demonstration ambitions closer to implementation.
