On 21–22 October 2026, the SAFeCRAFT partners met in Trieste, Italy, for the fifth General Assembly of the project. Hosted by RINA, this hybrid meeting gave the consortium a valuable opportunity to review the work completed so far, exchange expertise and plan the next steps for the months ahead, as the project moves closer to the full-scale demonstration onboard M/V Worldship.
The meeting covered the project’s main work packages. Partners shared updates on project management, on dissemination and communication activities, and on the assessment of alternative fuel systems. The engineering sessions focused on the demonstrator and the desktop studies, with updates on the detailed production design, the modularity and scalability concepts, and the basic design of the vessel types under study. A dedicated workshop, led by the project’s Technical Committee, allowed partners to discuss the Power-Take-In (PTI) powertrain options in depth.
Safety and implementation were also at the centre of the discussions. Partners examined the qualitative and quantitative risk assessments supporting the detailed design, the guidelines on occupational and social health and safety, and the key safety considerations emerging from the project. They also reviewed the preparations for installing and testing the demonstrator system onboard, together with the progress of the smart digital tools for monitoring, decision support and predictive maintenance. A workshop aligning the desktop studies and an introductory session for the upcoming hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies completed the technical programme.
The meeting ended with a joint review of the main outcomes, the actions ahead and the plans for the next consortium meeting.
SAFeCRAFT warmly thanks RINA for its hospitality and organisation, and all partners for their contribution to two productive days of discussion. Together, the consortium continues to work towards safer, more efficient and cleaner maritime transport.
