With a rich legacy in mechanical engineering and aeronautics, the University of Patras (UPAT) emerges as a pivotal player in shaping the future of sustainable engineering. Rooted in innovative research and collaborative solutions, UPAT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics leads intelligent design initiatives for complex mechanical systems across diverse sectors, including aeronautics and maritime industries.
Through a recent shift towards sustainable engineering, UPAT is dedicated to realizing a greener future through inventive research and strategic collaborations. Amidst these endeavors, UPAT proudly contributes its expertise to the SAFeCRAFT project, focusing on smart digitalization and decision support systems for assessing the sustainability of alternative fuel technologies.
Within the SAFeCRAFT project framework, UPAT leads the charge in several key areas, notably in the smart digitalization process, where it drives innovation through a dedicated digital platform using utilizing knowledge from existing technologies and the development of Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) tools. Additionally, UPAT undertakes the responsibility for predictive maintenance tool development, crucial for ensuring the efficiency and reliability of sustainable fuel systems.
SAFeCRAFT’s mission closely aligns with UPAT’s ongoing involvement in similar ventures such as LH2CRAFT and NH3CRAFT, where the university leads the integration of advanced technologies to facilitate the adoption of sustainable fuels in maritime transport. Furthermore, UPAT extends its support to the project’s Knowledge-Hub, serving as a vital conduit for transferring cutting-edge knowledge and technologies, particularly in novel materials and fuel technologies, to the maritime sector.
