As we conclude our SAFeCRAFT team spotlight series featuring HYDRUS ENGINEERING S.A., we are proud to introduce Dimitrios (Jim) Vlachos—a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer playing a central role in the project’s technical and coordination activities.
Dimitrios Vlachos has been with HYDRUS ENGINEERING S.A. for several years, contributing to diverse areas such as new building plan approvals, retrofit designs, and gross tonnage (GRT) calculations. Since January 2024, he has been a dedicated member of the company’s Innovation Hub, where he focuses exclusively on research and development, particularly in EU-funded initiatives that support the decarbonization of waterborne transport and the advancement of alternative fuel technologies.
His current portfolio includes major projects such as SAFeCRAFT and LH2CRAFT—both coordinated by HYDRUS—as well as important electrification initiatives like the ALFION-INFRA Project and the BlueBARGE Project. These efforts aim to support the wider adoption of clean energy in port environments and offshore infrastructure.
Within the SAFeCRAFT project, Dimitrios Vlachos plays a dual role, contributing to both administrative and technical work packages. He helps coordinate and facilitate project management meetings while also being actively involved in the technical development of alternative fuel systems and the integration of sustainable ship technologies.
Dimitrios Vlachos’ strong attention to detail, interdisciplinary expertise, and commitment to innovation are vital to ensuring that SAFeCRAFT delivers scalable, real-world engineering solutions in support of Europe’s green transition objectives.
