Led by HYDRUS, Task 6.2: Development of Test & Trials Procedures has taken an important step towards ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient implementation of the vessel retrofit.
Following the conclusion of the basic design phase, the documentation submitted for review and approval included a provisional list of testing procedures required to comply with the relevant Classification Society marine rules and regulations. These procedures cover not only the vessel’s seaworthiness, but also the correct installation of components in line with established standards and best practices.
A key focus of this task has been the retrofit of the vessel’s existing shafting arrangement to accommodate the installation of the PTI/PTO machine. In this context, the testing and validation procedures have been extended to include shafting realignment and vibration calculations, which are essential for confirming the reliability and safety of the modified propulsion system.
In addition, the developed procedures have been structured to verify the design work related to the vessel’s energy performance improvements and the expected reduction of greenhouse gas emissions under different operating conditions, including normal sea-going and low-load profiles.
The impact of Task 6.2 is significant for both the project and its wider objectives. By establishing a clear framework for tests and trials, the task supports compliance with regulatory and classification requirements, enables the safe and effective installation of the retrofit solution, validates technical performance, and helps demonstrate the project’s environmental benefits.
Overall, these procedures provide the necessary foundation for the next project stages, helping ensure that the retrofit measures can be tested thoroughly and implemented with confidence.
