SAFeCRAFT’s ‘Towards Zero Emissions Synergies Workshop’, organized by WEGEMT and hosted by IST Lisbon, convened a vibrant gathering of over 60 in-person participants and 35 online attendees earlier today from diverse sectors. This hybrid event marked a pivotal moment in fostering collaboration and innovation toward a sustainable maritime future.
The workshop was highly successful, with engaging discussions and valuable exchanges of ideas on exploring synergies for zero-emission innovation. Attendees contributed actively to the vibrant dialogue on how cross-sectoral collaboration can drive progress in maritime sustainability.

Dr. Ana Mesbahi (University of Strathclyde) delivered an insightful presentation on LH2CRAFT – Safe and Efficient Marine Transportation of Liquid Hydrogen.
Mr. Alexandros Giannakis (HYDRUS) presented on NH3CRAFT – Safe and Efficient Storage of Ammonia within Ships.
Dr. Ana Mesbahi (University of Strathclyde) and Mr. Alexandros Giannakis (HYDRUS) showcased SAFECRAFT – Safe and Efficient Use of Sustainable Fuels in Maritime Transport Applications.
Dr. Paulo Ribeirinha (AMNIS PURA) discussed GAMMA – Green Ammonia and Biomethanol Fuel Maritime Vessels.
Dr Alessandro Iafrati (CNR) highlighted RETROFIT55 – Retrofit Solutions to Achieve 55% GHG Reduction by 2030.
Dr. Ioannis Ergas (WEGEMT) explored FLEXSHIP – Modular Battery Systems for On-Board Integration and Operation.
Dr. Martina Galluccio (RINA) introduced DT4GS (Digital Twins for Green Shipping).
In addition, Dr. Ioannis Ergas led a compelling discussion on Industry and Higher Education for Skills, Training, and Capacity Building, highlighting the importance of bridging gaps between academia and industry.
