This task, led by the University of Strathclyde, builds upon the Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) performed in the previous phase to identify dangerous areas on the demonstrator ship. Based on the results obtained, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) will be applied to crucial hazards and specific areas to quantify the operational risks. The analysis will include Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations for potential gas leak, dispersion, fire and explosion using Fire Dynamic Simulator in combination with accidental statistics.
Hazardous zones will be determined and the safety zones for H2 or NH3 bunkering will be established. The safety comparison of different storage systems will be conducted by means of structural Finite Element Analysis and risk controls and safety measures will be applied to enhance the safety of the demonstrators and the desktop studies.
The results from the QRA will provide safety recommendations that will be fed into confirmation/revision of optimal safety designs.
