SAFeCRAFT Presented at the 1st Marine & Fisheries Science and Technology Innovation Forum 2026

SAFeCRAFT was recently presented at the 1st Marine & Fisheries Science and Technology Innovation Forum 2026, hosted by KIMST, which was successfully completed with 841 participants.

The forum brought together Korean scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and maritime stakeholders to exchange knowledge on the future of sustainable marine and fisheries science and technology. The strong participation reflected the increasing interest in clean maritime innovation, alternative fuels, and the safety challenges linked to the transition towards greener shipping.

During the forum, Dr Injun Yang from the University of Strathclyde delivered a presentation titled “Safety trends of alternative-fuel ships and implications for Arctic shipping”. The presentation explored the safety considerations associated with alternative-fuel vessels, with particular attention to demanding operational contexts such as Arctic routes and extreme polar conditions.

The discussion addressed key topics including alternative-fuel ship safety, ice-breaking vessel design, risk assessment, and the role of robust QRA and CFD methodologies in supporting safer decision-making for future maritime operations.

For SAFeCRAFT, the forum provided a valuable opportunity to highlight the project’s contribution to the safe assessment and development of sustainable alternative fuel systems for shipping. By focusing on safety, technical feasibility, and environmental performance, SAFeCRAFT supports the maritime sector’s transition towards cleaner and more resilient transport solutions.
