SAFeCRAFT is dedicated to researching and showcasing the utilization of various sustainable alternative fuels aboard oceangoing vessels, involving either Internal Combustion Engines or Fuel Cells as power sources. Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHCs) are being explored due to their high energy density and their capacity for safe hydrogen storage and transportation.
Within a ship’s energy configuration system, LOHCs are being assessed in terms of performance, environmental impact, operating procedures, maintenance and safety, aligned with the operational profiles of chosen vessels. This comprehensive investigation, led by Technische Universität Dresden, will provide a holistic overview of how the implementation of LOHCs affects the overall ship concept design.
