In SAFeCRAFT RINA will lead the definition of the desktop studies and will support the partners in defining and developing the innovative technologies, proactively contributing to all stages of design, testing and construction. RINA will also ensure the compliance of the novel concepts with applicable rules and regulations, thus setting-up an Approval Roadmap. Finally, RINA will support the identification of possible regulatory barriers or gaps.
Through SAFeCRAFT, RINA aims to strengthen its core competences bringing into the project its experience on plan approval / inspection / testing / certification, aimed at storing and transporting hydrogen (liquid and compressed), or in the form of ammonia or liquid organic hydrogen carriers over longer distances. Such expertise is part of RINA activities on energy efficiency improvements and safe introduction of alternative zero-carbon fuels, strategic to remain one of the leading classification societies in this sector. In addition, the outcome of the project will support the evolution of the existing technical classification rules or even the development of new rules and additional class notations.
