SAFeCRAFT is an ambitious 48-month project, with a primary focus on maritime transport applications. It aims to serve as a pioneering endeavor, leading the way in retrofitting and designing new seagoing vessels to ensure the safety and feasibility of Sustainable Alternative Fuels (SAFs).
The SAFeCRAFT consortium includes two major classification societies/IACS members (ABS, RINA), four technical universities (NTUA, UoS, UPAT, TUD), three industry partners (HYDRUS, MOTOR OIL, SEANERGY), and one network association (WEGEMT).
The core team of the SAFeCRAFT project (HYDRUS, ABS, UoS, RINA, NTUA, WEGEMT, TUD, UPAT plays a central role in two additional prominent HORIZON Europe endeavors: the LH2CRAFT and NH3CRAFT projects, both closely linked to the advancement of Sustainable Alternative Fuels (SAFs). This collaboration streamlines the transfer of technologies and expertise to the SAFeCRAFT project, thereby making a substantial contribution to the realization of its objectives.
All partners will bring their experience in the fields of shipping, naval architecture and marine engineering, tank manufacturing, hydrogen production and handling processes, safety and risk assessment, marine classification, and material science, in implementing SAFs in full transnational operations on a 180,000 DWT Capesize Bulk Carrier.
